Locals call it “Dog Beach,” and it’s easy to see why. The cove’s warm microclimate makes it one of the most comfortable beaches on the Central Coast, and the whole area, from beach cafés to local inns, welcomes dogs with open arms.

Dog Rules Made Simple

🐾 Main Avila Beach: Off-leash only before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. (voice control required). No dogs between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
🐾 Olde Port Beach: Just down the road, dogs can run free all day long!
🐾 Always pick up after your pup and keep things friendly for everyone.

My Tips for the Best Day

Go early or catch sunset! Less crowd, golden light, and more freedom.
Bring water and waste bags (just in case).
Walk the pier after your beach playtime and grab a bite on a dog-friendly patio.
